Sudan Commentary as the Uprising Continues

My primary, verging on exclusive, form of commentary on current events in Sudan takes the form of postings on Twitter (and to a much lesser extent, Linked In). With more than 10,000 Sudanese followers on these social media platforms, I believe that the frequency and range of commentary is more important that sustained analyses that I publish only on my website. Events are so many, and occur with such speed, that Twitter has come to seem a natural genre for observations—often accompanied by screenshots of the texts of news dispatches or photos that I have annotated, sometimes heavily.

RSF = Rapid Support Forces, the reconstituted janajaweed
SAF = Sudan Armed Forces (regular army)
UNAMID = the UN/African “hybrid” Mission in Darfur
TMC = Transitional Military Council, the junta that has replaced al-Bashir’s
FFC = Forces for Freedom and Change (broadest organization of civilian uprising)
SPA = Sudanese Professionals Association (spearheading the uprising)
