Dr. Tom Catena is the closest thing to a hero to have emerged from the ghastly conflict in South Kordofan, instigated by the Khartoum regime in June 2011.  He continues his work at the Mother of Mercy Hospital in Gidel (near Kauda in the Nuba Mountains).  His courage, compassion, and dedication are examples of what the human spirit at its finest is capable of.
