OXFAM AMERICA is now the beneficiary of all proceeds from all on-line sales of my woodturnings (https://www.etsy.com/shop/EricReevesWoodturner/ ). OXFAM is one of the few remaining American relief organizations in Darfur, and their work is in urgent need of support. Donor fatigue and the general invisibility of the critical ongoing needs of the people in the Darfur—in camps and rural regions especially—have served Khartoum’s stated ambition of removing all international relief organizations from the region, many of which have already been expelled—or withdrawn because of intolerable insecurity.
OXFAM is also at work in violence-wracked South Sudan, where humanitarian needs have grown tremendously in the year and a half since civil war engulfed the new nation, fueled by ethnic animosities and poor leadership on both sides. The work OXFAM is doing to mitigate suffering and human destruction is some of the most important currently undertaken by any international relief organization.
