Mahmoud Mohamed Taha

Mahmoud Mohamed Taha, a great man and a great Islamic reformer—publicly hanged in Kober Prison in 1985  for his efforts.  The National Islamic Front/National Congress Party, which came to power by military coup in June 1989, has used its security forces to prevent a celebration of Taha’s legacy: there is certainly no interest on the part of this unregenerate and corrupt regime in seeing reform efforts highlighted.  Indeed, Radio Dabanga reports (22 January 2015) that the Mahmoud Mohamed Taha Centre in Omdurman has now been shut down by security forces.
