Before their very eyes: the UN/African Union (“hybrid”) Mission in Darfur has failed badly, and yet the international community refuses to be honest about the scale and consequences of this failure.

In this notorious photograph from North Darfur, UNAMID watches as militia forces attack unarmed displaced persons before their very eyes.

This refusal to respond to even the most obvious threats against civilian populations defines UNAMID all too fully.
